It was announced in the 2019 Policy Address that the Government would redevelop three urban squatter areas (i.e. Cha Kwo Ling Village, Ngau Chi Wan Village and Chuk Yuen United Village), so as to increase public housing supply in the urban areas through high-density development and improve the living environment of residents in the squatter areas through the Government's compensation and rehousing arrangements. The Government would take up the site formation and infrastructure works, then deliver the sites to the Hong Kong Housing Society for construction of a total of about 8 700 public housing units.
